Southern Westchester Goes Green For St. Patrick's Day With Music, Food

SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER, N.Y. -- It's been said we're all a little bit Irish come St. Paddy's Day. It's also been said March 17 is a great excuse to eat, drink, and enjoy that famous Emerald Isle cheer.

Everyone knows about the White Plains bar scene and parade March 14. Everyone also knows about the Spillane siblings: Molly Spillane's in Mamaroneck, Maggie Spillane's in Mount Vernon and Mickey Spillane's in Eastchester where you'll find piles of corned beef and cabbage, traditional Irish music and a wait staff ready to serve you with melodic lilts.

Not to mention the many bars and eateries that line McLean Avenue in Yonkers (hello Rory Dolans!), the famous Irish breakfast at Eileen's Country Kitchen, and the always proud Yonkers parade.

So, in the spirit of "going green," we've included some of the lesser-known Celtic celebrations. Got one we missed? Tell us about it in the Comments area below.

Irish Concert, Empire City Casino, Yonkers: Start your St. Paddy's celebration Sunday, March 8, with the sounds of Shilelagh Law, Celtic Cross and The Pipes and Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester. Concert starts at 3 p.m. and tickets are $17. Go Green: 810 Yonkers Ave., 914-968-4200.

Live Music at Katie's Cottage, Yonkers: Come at 7 p.m. March 17 for a live performance by the Pipes and Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester followed by a 9 p.m. show by Martin Kenny. Chocolations, Mamaroneck: Satisfy your sweet tooth with Irish cream truffles, in milk and dark chocolate, and shamrock-shaped goodies where holidays are taken seriously. You'll also find Irish soda bread from Mamaroneck's Westchester Bakery. Go Green: 607 E Boston Post Rd., 914-777-3600.

The Butchers Fancy, Yonkers: Get food to go, including authentic Irish soda bread, corned beef and Irish boiled bacon. The store also stocks a variety of Emerald Isle specialty imports.
