NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Newport Academy founder Jamison Monroe will be among the panelists at a discussion at New Canaan High School on Thursday, March 31, to talk about avoiding the peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol.

“The Power of Prevention: Success Stories and Strategies for Healthy Teen Years” will be attended by students from Ram Council, a club at New Canaan High School who have pledged to remain drug and alcohol free.

Along with Monroe, the panel of experts will include Mark Davis of St. Luke’s School, Maud Purcell of Life Solutions of Darien, Joe Greenfield of Turning Point Treatment Centers and New Canaan First Selectman Rob Mallozzi III.

Monroe founded Newport Academy in 2008, and it operates private therapeutic high schools in Darien, California, and New York. Newport Academy is a group of healing centers for adolescents and young adults suffering from trauma, mental health, behaviorial health and substance abuse issues.

“The teen years are a time of discovery and wonder,” says Monroe. “This is a time to be creative, to be a kid. When teens support one another in abstinence, they generate lifelong bonds and can truly focus on their bright futures.”

Admission is free for students, and $10 is the suggested donation for adults. For more information, contact Joyce Sixsmith at joyce.sixsmith@gmail.com or call 917-678-0543.
