WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Music Conservatory of Westchester alumni will gather for the music school's first reunion and concert in White Plains Saturday night.

The non-profit, in Greenburgh, was founded in 1929 and boasts alumni the likes of Garrick Ohlsson and William Wolfram, both concert pianists, Minday Kaufman, New York Philharmonic flutist and Todd Machover, composer and MIT professor.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some of the alumni who’ve graduated in the 17 years I’ve been involved with the Conservatory,” Jean Newton, executive director of the Music Conservatory and Edgemont resident. said in a statement.  “Since we started planning this event, I’ve been amazed to find how many people have a past connection to our school.”

New Rochelle educator David Tobey will be honored at the reunion at the conservatory's recital hall on 216 Central Ave. He attended the conservatory in the 1960s, then went on to The Jiulliard School, which named him one of the school’s 100 top graduates in 2005.

The painter and sculptor also graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a master’s in studio art. He is a founding member of the Westchester Philharmonic and teaches strings and directs the orchestra at Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle.

“David is a very special alumnus who has given back so much to the community and enriched many lives with his music and his art,” Newton said in a statement.

The conservatory has used images of Tobey’s paintings for benefit invitations and posters, including its inaugural alumni reunion June 1. At the reunion, Tobey’s latest abstract paintings will be exhibited, and remain on display through June 30.

”I feel very strongly that the nurturing, inspirational, and highly professional instruction I received at the Conservatory is what set me on my life’s career as a musician and teacher,” Tobey said in a statement.

Students and faculty will perform, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and a new photo exhibit chronicling the school since its founding in 1929 will be unveiled.
