Can't wait until Thanksgiving to get your fill of stuffing? Use National Stuffing Day on Saturday as your excuse.
The first known documented stuffing recipes appeared in the Roman cookbook, Apicius “De Re Coquinaria." Recipes consisted of vegetables, spices, herbs and nuts. Others included chopped liver or other organ meat, according to National Day Calendar.
The more common definition of stuffing includes bread cubes or crumbs combined with onions, celery, salt and pepper along with spices and herbs such as summer savory, sage or poultry seasoning.
No matter how you take your stuffing, feel free to dig in. Think of it as a nice warm up for the Thanksgiving feast on Thursday.
