Boasting some of the top performers and music educators in the country as faculty, the school provides an in-depth five-week, summer experience for those interested in music, visual arts and theater. The curriculum includes instrumental classes, chamber music, a variety of ensembles, visual arts and musical theater workshops.

"The program is a nice introduction to Hoff-Barthelson and can lead to a lifelong passion for music," said Joe Piscitelli, director of the Summer Arts Program at Hoff-Barthelson. "The summer program is fun for all kids, whether they're beginners or have been involved in the arts for 10 years."

Students of all levels receive instruction individually tailored to their needs and interests. To help participants learn best, the Summer Arts Program is divided into three categories; an elementary program, junior program and senior program.

Those in the elementary program receive an instrumental group lesson, participate in a visual arts class, a drama workshop and eurhythmics and perform in weekly concerts. Offerings for students in the junior and senior programs include instrumental group lessons, orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber music, chorus, percussion, jazz band, visual arts, drama workshops, classes in the School’s state-of-the-art Music Technology Lab and more.

"There is a wide variety of classes to choose from at each age level," said Piscitelli.

For the most advanced students enrolled in the Summer Arts Advanced Jazz Program, Jazz Jam Fridays will give young musicians the chance to collaborate with some of New York’s most illustrious jazz performers. "We are so excited to have musicians like Ed Palermo who plays with the kids, gives them ideas and energizes them," said Piscitelli.

There is also the opportunity to participate in a Music Theater Workshop which provides a fun-filled way to learn multiple disciplines and skills. Improvisation, theater games, classical mime, “selling the song” in vocal performance and basic theater dance are explored culminating in a final production. Past productions have included "Seussical," "School House Rock," "Barnum," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Oklahoma!"

The 2017 Summer Arts Program runs Monday through Friday beginning June 26 through July 28 at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School, located at 25 School Lane in Scarsdale.
