Dine Out In White Plains for "No Kid Hungry" Fundraiser

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Supermarket aisles are abundant with almost every food imaginable and “Big Gulps” are available at seemingly every turn in Westchester County, so it is hard to believe that one in five children in America  -- some 16 million kids -- struggle with hunger on a daily basis.

Childhood hunger is an epidemic in the United States, according to nonprofit organization Share Our Strength. And it helps prevent kids from reaching their full potential.

But there’s something you can do to help: go out to eat.

This week is “Dine Out For No Kid Hungry," and if you patronize restaurants participating in the campaign between now and Sept. 22, you can help stem the tide of childhood hunger.

Share Our Strength estimates its "Dine Out for No Kid Hungry" event, now in its fifth year, has raised more than $4 million to raise awareness about child hunger in the U.S.

Each restaurant oversees its own specific fundraising. While some are giving customers coupons for donations made, others will donate a percentage of proceeds from their fundraising endeavors. All participating restaurants can be found on Dine Out For No Kid Hungry's website.

Money raised from the event also directly supports school breakfast and summer and after-school meal programs, contributes to education initiatives that teach families how to cook healthy meals with limited resources, and goes to create public-private partnerships that work together to provide kids with the food they need.

So, c’mon White Plains: dig in to your favorite taco at Desert Moon Grille , which is participating in the event, and help make positive change in the life of a child.
