Get the tequila, salt or sugar ready for happy hour on Wednesday because Feb. 22 is National Margarita Day.
Margaritas consist of tequila, triple sec and lime juice that is shaken and either served frozen, straight up or over ice.
The origins of the mixed drink are not totally clear, though a drink called the Picador that uses the same ingredients was found in the 1937 Cafe Royal Cocktail Book. The frozen version of the drink came into existence much later.
Since its emergence as a go-to tequila-based cocktail, other variations have emerged like strawberry, mango and watermelon flavored margaritas.
No matter how you enjoy it, make sure to raise a salt-rimmed glass to the Margarita on Wednesday.
