Boces Offers Teen Mental Health Training In New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N. Y. -- The Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services Project Aware, in cooperation with several local agencies, is offering Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 in New Rochelle to anyone interested in helping young people through a crisis or mental health problem.

Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at New Rochelle High School, 26 Clove Road. It will be conducted by instructors with the National Council for Behavioral Healthand sponsored by Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services, or BOCES.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid training program provides information about unique issues facing teens, and helps take away the stigma surrounding mental health, officials said.

It's available to anyone who lives with or works with teens, but particularly important for teachers, coaches, first-responders and case workers. For details, contact Ellen Garcia at egarcia@newrochelle.k12.ny.us.
