White Plains has become one of the leading participants in this event in New York State. Mayor Thomas Roach will be bringing his two sons to school that day. The Roach boys attend Eastview Middle School and White Plains High School, respectively.
“The education of our youth is the most important investment we can make," said Roach. "When we educate our children, we educate our nation. It is so important that fathers and father figures be actively involved in their children’s lives. Participating in Dads Take Your Child to School Day” is one small but significant way to do that.”
Timothy P. Connors, Interim Superintendent of Schools also believes participation reinforces education.
“Participation in this event helps reinforce to children that education is a priority," said Connors. "This program is also an opportunity for dads to volunteer, sign up for school activities, meet their child’s teachers and the school principal.” Frank Williams, Jr. executive director of the White Plains Youth Bureau, is encouraging all fathers and father figures (uncles, grandparents, cousins, trusted family friends) to participate.
“The bottom line is that when children feel good about their family, their community and themselves, success is almost always assured,” said Williams. This program is supported by the White Plains School District PTA Council, the African American Men of Westchester, the White Plains Cares Coalition and Hudson Health Care.
