What's Happening Around White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A salsa class, a health care career fair and an acting class for students are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Monday, Sept. 17

Mother Goose Time – “School Days”: 11 to 11:30 a.m. Songs, rhymes and stories that encourage early literacy skills will be held at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. for newborns to 24-month-olds with caregiver. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Conservation Board: 8 p.m. The City of White Plains Conservation Board will meet in the council chambers at City Hall, 255 Main St.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

Citizenship Class: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The White Plains Library’s citizenship class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from September through December. The class will prepare participants to take the U.S. citizenship exam and will cover all parts of the process. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Salsa With Addie Diaz: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn a cultural dance and express yourself through it. Participants will learn about the creative interaction between Latin dance and musical timing. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Planning Board: 7 p.m. The City of White Plains Planning Board will meet in the council chambers at City Hall, 255 Main St. 

Wednesday, Sept. 19

White Plains Farmers Market: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market is on Court Street between Martine Avenue and Main Street and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 21.

E-Resumes: 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Learn how to format your resume for posting online and emailing to prospective employers. Bring your resume saved on a flash stick or floppy disk. Registration is required and can be done online. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Job Fair for Health Care Professionals: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The ADVANCE Job Fair and Career Event for Healthcare Professionals will have a packed exhibit hall, featuring recruiters in your area from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and educational sessions covering crucial health care topics from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This event is open to qualified health care professionals. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave.  

“Act It Out”: 4:30–5:30 p.m. The "Act It Out" program is a three-session drama workshop of theater games and script reading for grades 3-6. Sessions are Sept. 13, 20 and 27. There will be a group performance at the end of the last session at 5 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
