WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. There are several service events and ceremonies commemorating the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11 in White Plains this week, in addition to a school board meeting and a theater program for children at the library.
Monday, Sept. 10
Aphasia Support Group : 10:3011:45 a.m. This support group is for people with aphasia, a disorder caused by damage to the parts of the brain that control language. Board of Education Meeting : 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Board of Education will have its regular meeting at Education House on 5 Homeside Lane.
Tuesday, Sept. 11
9/11 Commemorative Ceremony : 8 a.m. White Plains will honor its residents lost in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a commemorative ceremony in Liberty Park on Lake Street.
Citizenship Class Registration : 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. People can register for the White Plains Librarys citizenship class, which is at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from September through December. The class will prepare participants to take the U.S. citizenship exam and will cover all parts of the process. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Mouse and Window Skills : 10:1511:45 a.m. Learn how to use the mouse, including point and click, pull-down menus and scroll bars. Registration is required and can be done by calling 914-422-1480 or in person at the reference desk of the White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Remembrance Quilt : 46 p.m. Make a remembrance quilt that will be sent to military members overseas or local fire/police departments. This event is part of the Volunteer Center's 9/11 week of service and remembrance . White Plains YMCA, 250 Mamaroneck Ave.
Wednesday, Sept. 12
Mary Lou Seamen Westchester Employees Blood Drive : 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Westchester County will have a blood drive co-sponsored with New York Blood Center. Picture identification is required previous donors could use their donor card as ID. Donors must be between the ages of 16 (with completed NYBC consent form) and 76, and a minimum of 110 pounds. Thursday, Sept. 13
Act It Out : 4:305:30 p.m. The "Act It Out" program is a three-session drama workshop of theater games and script reading for grades 3-6. Sessions are Sept. 13, 20 and 27. There will be a group performance at the end of the last session at 5 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
