What's Happening Around White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A puppet show, a special meeting of the White Plains Board of Education and several back-to-school events at the White Plains Library are some of the events happening this week.

Monday, Aug. 27

Spring Valley Puppet Theater: 2–3 p.m. The White Plains Library will host Michael Graham, who will perform “The Three Wishes” and “The Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” for children between first and sixth grades. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave. 

Common Council Work Session: 6 p.m. The White Plains Common Council will have a work session in its chambers in City Hall, 255 Main St.

TROVE @ the Movies: 7–8:30 p.m. The TROVE Summer Film Festival presents a Japanese animated film from Disney, based on the classic children's novel “The Borrowers” by Mary Norton. The Clock family are 4-inch tall people who live secretly in another family's residence. Life changes for the Clocks when their daughter, Arrietty, is discovered. This 94-minute film is rated G. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Board of Education Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The White Plains school board will have a special meeting at Education House, 5 Homeside Lane. The board will be in executive session.

Tuesday, Aug. 28

Time for 2s and 3s – “Bubbly Bath”: 11–11:30 a.m. The White Plains Library children’s room, also known as the TROVE, will have songs, games, activities and stories, including “Bubbly Bath”, for kids ages 2-3. Caregivers must be present. The program will be offered against from 1-1:30 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Wednesday, Aug. 29

White Plains Farmers' Market: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market is on Court Street between Martine Avenue and Main Street and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 21.

“Going into Kindergarten” Storytime: 3–3:30 p.m. The TROVE will offer a special storytime and craft activity for children entering kindergarten this fall. There will be another back-to-school-themed storytime for the whole family from 7-7:30 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Aug. 30

Vamos a la Escuela: 11–11:30 a.m. There will be a back-to-school-themed storytime for Spanish-speaking families. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Make a “Going-to-School Kit”: 2–2:30 p.m. Prepare yourself for going back to school with the moral support of a “going-to-school” kit at the White Plains Library. Children will put a kit together and hear some school stories. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
