What To Do In White Plains This Weekend

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A stuffed animal sleepover, a town hall meeting and march for justice for Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. and an indoor farmers market are a few of the events happening in White Plains this weekend. 

Friday

Mouse and Window Skills: 10:15 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Learn how to use the mouse, including point and click, pull-down menus and scroll bars. Students will also learn basic Windows functions such as opening and closing programs, minimize/maximize and how to start a computer session at the library. Stuffed Animal Sleepover Drop-off: 4 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Bring your stuffed animal friend for a sleepover in the White Plains Library children’s room, known as The Trove. You will return on Saturday to pick them up and enjoy a light brunch and slide show of all your stuffed animal friend’s overnight adventures. Pre-registration is required by calling 914-422-1476. Saturday

NAACP Town Hall Meeting/March: 10 a.m. The White Plains-Greenburgh chapter of the NAACP will gather at the Thomas H. Slater Center at 2 Fisher Court to address police misconduct, then march to the Winbrook Housing Complex at 135 S. Lexington Ave., where police fatally shot Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. on Nov. 19, 2011. There, they will hold a prayer vigil in his honor. A news conference will follow in front of the White Plains Public Safety Department at 77 S. Lexington Ave.

Westchester Feline Club: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. More than 230 cats and kittens compete in this annual International Cat Association event, which benefits local animal shelters and rescue groups. A household pet competition will be held, along with shelter cat birthday parties, face-painting, holiday shopping at the meow marketplace, ask-the-vet session and more. Sunday

Indoor Farmers Market:  10 a.m.-3 p.m. Purchase a variety of food and products grown and produced by local farmers and vendors, including fresh produce, baked goods, cheeses, maple syrup and honey, jams, meats, pickles, soaps and candles.
