What To Do In White Plains This Weekend

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Microsoft store opening at The Westchester, an exhibit of rare celebrity portraits, a bird walk and a Lenny Kravitz concert are a few of the events happening in White Plains this weekend.

Friday

Microsoft Store Opening: 10:45 a.m. Microsoft will open a new retail store in The Westchester. A ribbon-cutting will be held and the first few thousand customers will receive free tickets to see Lenny Kravitz perform at White Plains High School Saturday at 7 p.m. The Westchester, 135 Westchester Ave.

Stamp, Coin & Paper Money Show: noon – 6 p.m. The show is celebrating 49 years with more than 100 dealer booths including stamps, coins and postcards at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It returns Nov. 23-24.

Celebrities – We Remember Them Well: noon – 5 p.m. ArtsWestchester is displaying around 150 rare, vintage photos of iconic celebrities. Some of the last photos taken of John Lennon and Yoko Ono as a couple before Lennon’s death are featured prominently. Other photos taken of artists, actors, politicians and authors—Marilyn Monroe, Louis Armstrong and President Barack Obama among them—will all be showcased. Gallery hours will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, from Sept. 21 to Nov. 10. ArtsWestchester’s The Art Exchange, 31 Mamaroneck Ave. 

Saturday

Bird Walk: 8 a.m. Take a free guided walk and meet the birds of the French-American School of New York’s proposed Green to Green Conservancy. Avid birders Charlie Roberto, a Teatown Lake Reservation Trustee, and Dr. Mike Rubbo, director of Conservation Science at Teatown, will lead a walk through the grounds. RSVP is required. Ridgeway Clubhouse, 400 Ridgeway Ave. 

Family Fun Day: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A carnival benefiting the CMG Fundraising Foundation and March of Dimes comes to the Westchester County Center. There will be games, raffles, clowns, magic, puppet shows and other carnival-style activities. There will also be live music by Eric Herman and the Thunder Puppies, Graham Clarke, Vinnie Piazza, SugaRush, Buried In Blue, Teri Lamar and New Company, James Durst and special guest Pete Seeger. A suggested donation at the door of $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave.

Lenny Kravitz Concert: 7 p.m. The Microsoft retail store scheduled to open in The Westchester on Sept. 28 will have a very special guest that weekend – Lenny Kravitz. Tickets will be given out when the store opens Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Westchester.

Sunday

Bicycle Sundays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A section of the Bronx River Parkway is closed to cars for the exclusive use of bicyclists, joggers, walkers, scooters and strollers. The 13.1 mile round-trip starts at the Westchester County Center in White Plains and goes south to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers. Participants can enter and exit through many different parts of the route.
