What To Do In White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Mardi Gras mask making class, a Harlem Globetrotters game and a Chinese New Year celebration are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Monday, Feb. 11

Mardi Gras Mask Making: 4:30 to 5 p.m.  Children in third through sixth grades can make festive masks to wear for Mardi Gras, also known as Shrove Tuesday at the White Plains Library children’s room. It also marks the final day to party and eat sweets before the season of Lent. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

School Board Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

Harlem Globetrotters 2013 World Tour: 7 p.m. The magicians of basketball are celebrating their 87th year with the start of their 2013 World Tour. Tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters are $22.50 and can be bought online or by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000. For Group Sales information call 1-800-641-4667. Wednesday, Feb. 13

Chinese New Year Celebration: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the year of the snake with Chinese Language Development Center teachers. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade will hear stories, learn some calligraphy and Chinese paper cutting. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Claymation for African-American History: 6 to 7 p.m.  In honor of Black History Month a four-part Claymation workshop will give participants the chance to tell the life story of three famous African Americans through a Claymation video that will be posted on YouTube. The workshop will meet again Feb. 20 and Feb. 27. Registration is not required but greatly appreciated. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave. 

Thursday, Feb. 14

Video Game Creation: 4 to 5:45 p.m. This hands-on workshop teaches students how to design and develop a video game, which will be about the dangers of distracted driving. Register online or contact the library. The workshop meets each Thursday in February and through March 21. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
