What To Do In White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A juggling and comedy show for kids, a game of Jeopardy and a video game design workshop are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Monday, Feb. 18

All city offices and the U.S. Post Office are closed .

Storytime - "I Love the Skin I'm In" : 3:30 p.m. Celebrate Black History Month with Mayma Raphael, author of "I Love the Skin I'm In," which helps explain to children that, regardless of skin color, we are more alike than we are different. Storytime and crafts are for ages 3 to 8. Barnes & Noble, 230 Main St.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

Juggling & Comedy : 2 to 3 p.m. Will Shaw will perform juggling, unicycling, balance tricks, boomerangs, cowboy rope tricks, music, fire tricks, sight gags, clowning, all while incorporating the audience  into the show. This program is for families of children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Jeopardy : 4 to 5 p.m. Join a team and play a February-themed trivia game based on the popular TV show. Contestants should be 7 or older (grades two through six). White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

Stories & Stuff : 10:30 to 11 a.m.  Preschool story time, including a craft activity, for ages 4 and 5 without adult. Stories are centered on a theme and children listen and interact with corresponding rhymes, songs and/or finger plays. A final craft project ties in with the topic. This week’s story is “The Cat’s Meow”. The program will repeat at 2 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Feb. 21

Video Game Creation : 4 to 5:45 p.m. Students will design and develop a video game about the dangers of distracted driving. Register online or contact Eric Carlson, teen librarian, at (914) 422-6923, if you are interested in attending this course, which meets each Thursday in February, in addition to March 7, 14 and 21. Wii Fun for Kids : 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Wii competition takes place on the big screen in The Trove's Galaxy Hall. This program is for boys and girls in grades 1 to 5. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
