What To Do In White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Several library activities and a Board of Education meeting are taking place in White Plains this week, in addition to Columbus Day on Monday.

Monday, Oct. 8 (Columbus Day)

All White Plains public schools and the White Plains Public Library will be closed in observance of the holiday. Tuesday, Oct. 9

Board of Education Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Board of Education will have its regular meeting at Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.

Fall Frolic: 11 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 1:30 p.m. This event for 2- to 3-year-olds will feature songs, games and stories. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the program. Call Rosemary Rasmussen with any questions at 914-422-1476. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Wednesday, Oct. 10

Apple Time: 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 2:30 p.m. The event for 4- to 5-year-olds will have story time and crafts. “Patriocracy: A Film About the Polarization of Politics”: 7 to 9:30 p.m. This free White Plains Library event is about the “widespread political dysfunction” in our nation. 100 Martine Ave.

Family Night Out: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Families can play "Guitar Hero" and "Dance Dance Revolution" on the Nintendo Wii or enjoy board games together at this White Plains Library event. 100 Martine Ave., White Plains.

Intro to Microsoft Excel: 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. You can learn how to create spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. Registration is mandatory for this event. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Oct. 11

Parent-Child Connection: 10 to 11:15 a.m. This event is for ages 1 through 3. The library will have experts to discuss nutrition, speech and language, plus child development and other topics. You must register for this event, and only White Plains residents are allowed to attend. Call Rosemary Rasmussen at 914-422-1476 to register. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Safety and Social Media Workshop: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. This two-part workshop is for teenagers and their parents. It will focus on sexting and cyber-bullying. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave.
