What To Do In White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A job club, a workshop on getting out of credit card debt and a Groundhog Day story time are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Monday, Jan. 28

BLUEPRINT Milestone: 9:30 a.m. The Westchester County Association, a business membership organization, will announce a major milestone in the efforts of its BLUEPRINT for Westchester economic development initiative. This multimillion dollar, multiyear campaign is designed to spur growth for early-stage companies, thereby creating more jobs in Westchester County. 150 Grand St., third floor.

Tuesday, Jan. 29

Job Club: 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Career counselors Ginny Ruder and Rose Macom will talk about writing resumes and cover letters, preparing for an interview and using the Internet and social media. They will also help participants use the White Plains Library’s resources to conduct a job search and offer tips on developing a strong professional network. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

“Act It Out”: 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Theater games and script reading for students in third through sixth grades. A group performance will be held at 5 p.m. Registration is required and can be done in person at the Children’s Room or by calling 914-422-1476. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Get Out of Credit Card Debt: 7 p.m.-8 p.m. Learn about options available when you are faced with overwhelming credit card debt. Explore the pros and cons of working with a nonprofit credit counseling agency, payment plans offered by credit card companies and effective strategies for handling debt on your own. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007: 7:30 p.m.-8:45 p.m.  Learn how to create a simple letter using Microsoft Word, one of the most popular word processing programs. Using a sample resume, students will also learn the basics of formatting text, including font style, type size and alignment. Register online. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Jan. 31

Video Game Creation: 4p.m.-5:45 p.m. Design and develop a video game about the dangers of distracted driving. Register online or call 914-422-6923. 

K-2 Club – A Groundhog Day Story: 4:30-5 p.m.  Students in kindergarten through second grade will hear a story about Groundhog Day. A craft and cookie snack will also be featured. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
