WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A New Year’s Eve ball drop and fireworks display in downtown White Plains, a poetry slam and open mic night and a Three Kings Day celebration at the library are some of the events happening in White Plains this holiday week.
Monday, Dec. 31
Communion Service at Church of St. Bernard : 9-10 a.m. The weekly service will be at the Church of St. Bernanrd on 51 Prospect St.
Common Council Work Session : 6 p.m. The White Plains Common Council will meet in City Hall, 255 Main St.
White Plains New Year’s Eve Spectacular : 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The 14th Annual White Plains New Year's Eve Spectacular will include a ball drop at midnight on Main and Court streets accompanied by confetti and a four-minute fireworks display. There will be a DJ and music, and free rides home offered through Heineken USA's " New Year. Safe Ride " program. Main and Court streets.

Wednesday, Jan. 2
Housing Authority Board Meeting : 8:30 a.m. The White Plains Housing Authority Board will meet at 223 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Poetry Slam and Open Mic : 6:30-9 :30 p.m. The "1st Wednesday" series continues with an open mic, and poetry slam competition, with guest poet Benedicto “Broken English” Figueroa, who has been a member of three New Jersey slam teams and currently is the slammaster and host of Jersey City Slam, which he founded in 2009. Register to slam from 6:30-7 p.m. and bring two original poems of up to three minutes each. Three Kings Day : 7-7:30 p.m. Families can enjoy a bilingual story time for children and their families, along with a craft and a cookie snack. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Thursday, Jan. 3
Citizenship Class Registration : 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. People can register for the White Plains Library’s citizenship class, which will prepare participants to take the U.S. citizenship exam and will cover all parts of the process.
