WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A gem and jewelry show, a cardboard boat regatta and a tree-lighting ceremony are a few of the events happening in White Plains this weekend.
Friday
International Gem and Jewelry Show: Noon to 6 p.m. Exhibitors offer jewelry of all kinds, including loose-colored gemstones, fine-finished jewelry, fashion jewelry, beads and more. There will be discounts of 20-40 percent off of the regular retail price. The event continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and returns April 6-8. Admission is $8 or $6 with coupon. Children ages 8 and younger are not permitted. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave.
Fun With Toddlers – “Forest Friends”: 1-1:30 p.m. This program offers songs, games, activities, and stories for children 20-29 months old with caregivers. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Saturday
White Plains Re-usable Bag Give Away: All day. Shop at Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Target, Wal-Mart or Whole Foods and get a free reusable bag with a logo designed by White Plains High School student Max Crawley. The giveaway is part of the city’s Reusable Bag Initiative.
2nd Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta: 4 p.m. Put together a team of three to six people to construct a boat made only from cardboard and duct tape to participate in the YMCA’s Cardboard Boat Regatta. Elect a boat driver to navigate your boat across the pool and cheer him or her onto victory. Contact Hillary Southard for full details. YMCA, 250 Mamaroneck Ave.
Sunday
Meet Two Westchester Authors: 2 p.m. Meet authors Karen Engelmann and Jeane Zimmerman, who both recently released historical novels. Engelmann’s “The Stockholm Octavo” is set in 18th century Stockholm, and Zimmerman’s “The Orphanmaster” is set in 17th century New York. Both books will be on sale through the Friends of the White Plains Library. Library Director Brian Kenney will lead the discussion. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Tree Lighting Ceremony: 4-6 p.m. The annual City Lights Bright Holiday Nights Community Tree Lighting will feature visits with Santa, Frosty and Rudolph, music, ice carving, train and carousel rides and other winter games.
