WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Hurricane Sandy recovery center operated by FEMA, a belated Halloween celebration and a Veterans Day ceremony are a few of the events happening in White Plains this weekend. For more to do, visit our Events page.
FEMA Recovery Center: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visit FEMA’s multipurpose Hurricane Sandy recovery center to talk to representatives from Con Edison about outages, FEMA to learn how to apply for financial aid for losses and damages caused by the storm and the Small Business Administration to apply for low-interest loans for storm-related damages. A variety of social services agencies will also be on hand to provide residents with recovery assistance. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave.
Gun and Knife Show: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a 350-table sportsman firearm and knife show/sale. Sporting antiques and collectible firearms will be for sale. There will also be ammo, best knife makers and purveyors, militaria, uniforms, military style weapons, handguns and more. Vendors can call 914-248-1000. The event will continue Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave.
Halloween Tricks & Treats: Noon to 3 p.m. The annual White Plains Recreation and Parks Department event will feature family activities and candy bags for children. Gillie Park is at Mamaroneck Avenue and Gedney Way.
CPR for Teens: 1 to 3:30 p.m. Earn certification from the American Heart Association for CPR and AED in this two-and-a-half hour class. There is a limit of 10 people, and registration is required. Veterans Day Celebration: 10:30 a.m. Retired U.S. Marine Ricardo Sheppard will be honored at the White Plains Veterans Day Ceremony at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the White Plains Rural Cemetery, 167 N. Broadway.
The Rock and Roll Show: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Hear electrifying rock songs from the 1950s and 1960s to now by the Aesthetic Realism Theatre Company. The musicians will also tell you why the songs are important, loved and what they have to do with everyone’s life. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
