WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A toy giveaway and holiday meal for children, a high school basketball tournament and a rock opera based on The Who's 1969 album/rock opera "Tommy" are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Batty’s Kids Toy Giveaway and Holiday Dinner: 4 to 8 p.m. Batty’s Kids will give away more than 500 gifts to children of all ages, followed by a holiday dinner for Westchester families. Bet Am Shalom Hosts Dinner and Movies: 4 p.m. Bet Am Shalom Synagogue invites the community to movies and dinner on Christmas Day. Two movies will be shown: “Spy Kids” for family and “Arranged” for adults; free popcorn for all. At 6 p.m., there's a home-cooked vegetarian feast, with wine and soda. Slam Dunk Basketball Tournament: 11 a.m. This high school basketball tournament will take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with the first games starting at 11 a.m. Admission costs $5 per day. “The Who’s Tommy”: 8 p.m. The White Plains Performing Arts Center presents “The Who’s Tommy,” a rock musical by Pete Townsend and Des McAnuff based on The Who’s 1969 double album rock opera “Tommy.” Recommended for ages 16 and over for mature subject matter.
