WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Memorial Day, while typically a day to fire up the grill, head to the beach or shop at the mall, is first and foremost a day to honor our troops.

From Yonkers to Yorktown Heights, you'll find a host of parades and ceremonies. The following is a sampling of events taking place Monday.

Bedford: The Bedford Village Memorial Day parade and ceremony parade starts at ll:l5 a.m. at the corner of Seminary Road and Pound Ridge Road with a ceremony at the WW I, WW II, Korean, Vietnam and Gulf War memorials located at the flagpole on the Village Green. In Bedford Hills, the parade starts at 9 a.m. sharp at BHES on Babbitt Road.

Eastchester/Tuckahoe: A tribute begins at 8:30 a.m. at the World War II Monument, Generoso Pope Plaza, Depot Square in Tuckahoe. At 10 a.m., the parade steps off at Eastchester Town Hall (40 Mill Road) with a closing ceremony at Eastchester Memorial Park.

Elmsford: Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Legion Park on Main Street, ending at Village Hall for a service.

Katonah: Parade starts at 10 a.m. at Katonah Fire Department and heads down Katonah Avenue up Parkway to Lawrence Circle.

New Castle: Ceremonies at the Victory Corners Monument (King Street and Bedford Road) at 10:30 a.m. Parade steps off at 11 a.m. from Ridgewood Terrace at Bedford Road, ending at Memorial Circle at the Railroad Station.

New Rochelle: Service and wreath-laying at 10 a.m. at Memorial Plaza, Memorial Highway and Main Street, with a noon service at Glen Island Park. The waterside event, which goes to 5 p.m. is followed by a barbecue, and concert.

Harrison : Parade begins at 10 a.m. at Halstead Avenue.

Rye : Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. from Station Plaza and proceeds along Purchase Street to the Village Green.

Thornwood: Ceremony at ll a.m. at the monuments at Old Thornwood Railroad Sation.

Valhalla: Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Westlake Drive, south on Columbus Avenue, with ceremony at 10 a.m. at Village Green. Post-parade, there will be refreshments served at American Legion Post No. 1038.

White Plains: Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Church Street, between Main Street and Hamilton Avenue.

Yonkers: Ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at Washington Park Veterans Memorial, South Broadway. A second parade is being held May 30 at 1 p.m. on McLean Avenue.

Yorktown Heights : Service at memorials at Town Hall at 11 a.m. followed by parade at 11:15 a.m., then speeches and ceremony at John Jack DeVito Gazebo at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center, Town Hall, 363 Underhill Ave.

Somers: The annual Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony starts at 10 a.m. from Somers Middle School to Ivandell Cemetery. Refreshments at Somers Town House following the ceremony.
