WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Area resident and bestselling author Mark Slouka will speak Sunday, Oct. 20 at the White Plains Public Library’s annual Book Group and Author Reception.

The event is from from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the library's auditorium at 100 Martine Avenue.

Slouka's book, "Brewster," which takes place in the Village of Brewster in Putnam County, has been described in a review in Publishers Weekly as “a masterful coming of age story recalling the likes of Tobias Wolff and Raymond Carver,” with authentic regional and 1960s pop culture details.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author. The event will provide an opportunity for book group participants to gather and network, with refreshments, giveaways and door prizes. Librarian Barbara Wenglin will discuss her “Five Hot Tips for Book Group Readers and Leaders.”

Slouka is the author of four previous works of fiction including" Lost Lake", a New York Times Notable Book, and "The Visible World," a finalist for the British Book Award. His 2011 essay collection, "Essays from the Nick of Time," was the winner of the PEN/Diamonstein-Speilvogel Award.
