Frederick Beyer Jr., 86, Of Poughkeepsie, Former Baseball Draft Pick

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Frederick Beyer Jr, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, Feb.8. He was 86.

He was drafted to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, but was enlisted on Nov. 20, 1950 into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Italy. While there, he was able to travel and play baseball. A hardworking plumber and mechanical engineer for local 21 Plumber and Steamfitters, he was a man who believed in hard work.

He is survived by his wife, Florence "Dutch" Beyer of Hyde Park; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Gary Guido of Hyde Park; grandchildren, Christopher Guido, LeeAnna Guido and fiancé, Eric Curran' and Katherine Guido, and partner, Austin Pullman; great grandchildren, Audrey and Vivian Guido, and Annaliese Pullman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, along with his brother William Beyer and his sons, Michael Jay Beyer and Frederick Beyer III.

Calling hours are Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services are 11 a.m. following the visitation. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
