Both are providing financial aid, volunteer support and food donations -- including hot entrées served with vegetables, bread, salad and assorted desserts.

“Our members are proud and excited to be a part of the initiative,” Rotary President Suzanne Mannion-Hopkins said. “We strong encourage other community organizations to get involved with this worthy cause.”

“Being able to support the amazing community service that Parkside Community Church is providing is an excellent opportunity for the Chamber to give back,” said Anna Lui, a Rotary member who’s on the chamber board.

No reservations are needed for the dinner, beginning at 6 p.m. You could be in financial straits, need a break from cooking for one night or are tired of eating alone.

Attendees can come from anywhere, not just Westwood.

"It has been a terrific outreach to many who are struggling, but not enough people know about it despite some of our various efforts to get the word out," Pastor Rodney Haveman said.

"Some people who are struggling to make ends meet sometimes make choices between paying their gas bills or buying food," the pastor said. "We're filling a very real need in the community, while enabling our church to live out its call to be the hands and feet of Christ by serving 'the least of these'."

"Circle of Friends" dinners are held the fourth Thursday of every month. Average participation is 40-50 people.

“We can accommodate more -- and hope the number of attendees will continue to grow,” said Lisa Bontemps, a Rotary member who helps coordinate the dinners on behalf of Parkside Community Church.
