Defendant free in fatal GSP road rage crash

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Thomas J. Vanderweit of Saddle Brook is free on bail while he and a co-defendant await court action on death by auto charges following a road rage incident between the two that led to the death of a passenger after they raced up the Garden State Parkway.

Vanderweit, 27, was released after he and John C. Emili, a 21-year-old power weight-lifter and former Clarkstown North High School football player from New City, N.Y., were arraigned by a Superior Court judge Monday in a courtroom at the Bergen County Jail.

Emiri remains held on $100,000 bail, the amount that Vanderwit posted.

The incident began near the Route 17 exit around 10:45 Sunday morning, Trooper Christopher Kay told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

It ended with the death of 63-year-old Annetta Billingy of Teaneck, an unrestrained rear passenger in Emili’s Honda.
