A Fairfield woman filed a protective order against Shivan Mohammed Sofi , 25, of Clinton Avenue, on Dec. 31, saying he had been arrested on domestic charges previously and she feared him, police said. She called police after Sofi sent her one text reading “Happy New Year” and another asking whether she could watch their godson, police said.

She also noticed he had posted a photo of two guns with the caption “new toys” on his Instagram account, police said.

Officers called Sofi, who said he hadn’t received notice of the protective order until 2 a.m. Jan. 1 and was unaware he should not have contacted his ex-girlfriend when he texted her, police said. Police determined the guns belonged to a friend of Sofi's.

Sofi later turned himself in and was arrested on one count of violation of a protective order.

Bond was set at $1,000 and he was to appear in court Jan. 4.
