In February, the rapper was rushed to the hospital after first responders were alerted of a man who had collapsed, wasn’t breathing and was unresponsive in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn in Yonkers.

DMX was treated at the scene with Narcan - a narcotic overdose antidote used to save lives - by emergency service responders, who also gave him CPR and oxygen. He was revived after approximately 60 seconds into treatment and rushed to the hospital. He was released two days later.

According to multiple reports, to thank the officers that brought him back from the brink of death, DMX performed some of his biggest hits at a boxing-themed “Toughman Competition” between Yonkers police officers and firefighters. TMZ reported that his presence at the event helped bring in upwards of $80,000 for charity.

In a video posted by TMZ, the rapper repeatedly thanked the crowd during a two minute monologue, adding that “on Feb. 8, you saved my life. To go from at one point running from the police to having those police save my life, (they’re) true heroes.”

DMX, 45, was born as Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon and raised in Yonkers. He’s won two Grammy awards.
