The incidents don’t appear related, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.
All lanes of the bridge were reopened by noon — after several CLIFFVIEW PILOT followers reported traffic delays of up to five hours.
The cab of the second rig got wedged under the trailer of the first in the 2 a.m. crash, which was being investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit.
The second driver was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Pentangelo said.
At one point, Port Authority police allowed drivers to back up off the bridge. They then opened a section of the divided roadway to allow U-turns.
A single lane of the eastbound upper level was then opened, Pentangelo said.
Police urged motorists to seek alternate routes.
