More Than 45 Players Shine At White Plains Tennis Tourney

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --  The White Plains Recreation and Parks Department hosted its fourth annual U.S. Tennis Association Compete in the Parks tennis tournament, with more than 45 participants, at the White Plains' Gillie Park tennis courts on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21.

The Compete in the Parks series is a USTA program designed to promote recreational tennis for players of all levels and exposed many to tournament tennis play for the first time.  

The White Plains 2014 USTA Compete in the Park Fall Tournament results are as follows: Men’s singles: Andrew McGoey. Men’s 45 and over singles: Wojcieck Rymarrwicz. Men’s 60 and over singles: Stephen Kleinman. Men’s 45 and over doubles: Mike Quinn and Joseph Pinkas. Women’s 45 and over doubles: Maria Elena Fernandez-Ber and Gina Dempsey. Mixed doubles: Joanie Brown and Dominick Bonifate. Men’s 60 and over doubles: David Levine and Dominick Bonifate. Men’s 70 and over doubles: Don Barker and Don Moskowitz. Matches included various men's and women's singles and doubles. After two days of high-level play and friendly sportsmanship, the winners were crowned and awarded medals for their accomplishments. Refreshments and wristbands were provided by Mary Ellen Bickler of Brown-Bickler Co. 

The city of White Plains is an active member of the USTA and actively participates in many other USTA sponsored programs.
