WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- While many pet lovers seek out fur and a cold nose, those who prefer scales and spines headed to the Westchester County Center on Saturday.

The New York Metro Reptile Expo, which is the largest of its kind in the Northeast, is a mainstay of the County Center. The expo occurs several times a year.

More than 250 vendors come from across the East Coast to sell snakes, lizards, geckos, frogs, spiders, fish, turtles, scorpions and reptile care supplies.

Attendees bought and handled reptiles while discussing care with the vendors. Some gawked at massive snakes in awe, while others were too squeamish.

The animals ranged from tiny lizards and fish, to pythons over 10 feet long.

Brittany Gonzales of Yonkers held a tiny bearded dragon in her hand while a vendor told her more about their adult size.

"This is my first time ever going to a reptile expo," she said, "It's really cool, but I don't know if I'm ready to get one."

Daniel Badillo, also of Yonkers, said he attended the expo to get a better idea of the kind of reptiles one can own as a pet.

"I hope to get one in the future," he said.
