“This was a truly brazen act,” said Lansdowne Police Chief Kenneth Rutherford.

“Students were firing at other students during dismissal. Hundreds of kids were out there. It’s nothing short of a miracle that someone wasn’t killed."

The chief said the shooting happened near East Essex and Wabash avenues, about two blocks east of the Green Avenue campus.

Nobody was hurt, but a parked car was hit by stray bullets, he added.

Two students were arrested before sunrise on Saturday, Oct. 21 while police served warrants at their homes: a 17-year-old from Colwyn and a 16-year-old from Darby Borough, according to the department.

Police said they seized drugs, guns, and firearm components during the raids.

A third student, a 17-year-old senior from Philadelphia, was arrested on his way into school Tuesday morning, Oct. 24.

The 16-year-old was given an ankle monitor and placed on house arrest, while both 17-year-olds were remanded to the county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, police said.

LPD Chief Rutherford believes the shooting was part of an "ongoing feud between several groups of students."

“We need the parents of our students to step up," he said. “They need to know what their kids are doing and who they’re hanging out with.”

Campus security was strengthened on Monday, Oct. 23 with officers from multiple departments on campus and students' bags being checked before entry.
