Video: Helicopters Control Ramapo Reservation Brush Fire

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Video shows a state Forest Fire Service helicopter scooping and dropping lake water on a brush fire that spread more than five acres on the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah before being doused Monday afternoon.

Local firefighters stood by at a forward staging area while the NJ State Forest Fire Service dropped water onto the fire.

The service had help from local responders, including Mahwah Fire Rescue Co. 1, which produced the YouTube video, and township companies 2 and 5.

The blaze was initially reported at 2:43 p.m. near the Yellow-Silver Trail beyond the reservoirs upper lake.

Mahwah and Ramsey firefighters and Mahwah police joined in all-terrain vehicles. Hillburn firefighters provided mutual aid.

State authorities released the local units a little under two hours after the initial call.
