The Lancers lost in the opening round of the 2012 Maroon and White Kari Pizzitola Holiday Basketball Tournament. Lincoln will face South Bronx in the consolation game at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Lincoln has a bevy of juniors and seniors on the team, but head coach Michael Young, now in his 16th year at Lincoln, said the 2012-13 Lancers must essentially build a new identity.

“This is a relatively new group. Even though I have some seniors, they’re kind of fresh seniors, if you know what I mean,” Young said. “In other words, a lot of them don’t have a lot of experience.”

The Lancers scored 12 points in the first quarter against Scarsdale but struggled the rest of the way. Lincoln scored just 11 points in the final 24 minutes. Young said the team is still working through the kinks to establish its offensive style.

“We’re still trying to find ourselves, actually,” Young said. “I think that was part of this game is they defended us well but we couldn’t do nothing offensively. … We just couldn’t put it in the ocean today. We’re trying to find ourselves. We’re searching around to kind of figure out what’s going to happen. So we’re trying a lot of different things.”

Lincoln did play well defensively, which Young alluded to after the game.

Seniors Carlos Bobadilla, Tamar Tulgar and Anthony Robert, along with junior Tony Leone, will likely be the leaders of the team this season.

“Those guys should help us,” Young said. “That’s kind of what we’re looking for and we’ll kind of see what happens.”
