WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Healthy routines start at home, and the White Plains YMCA is offering area residents a chance to learn what steps to take.

The Y will host Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event, which is brought to you by presenting sponsor Key Bank, was designed to inspire kids to keep their bodies and minds active.

The program will include games, healthy food demonstrations, arts and crafts, science projects, martial arts demonstrations, basketball, ballet, Fit Kids and Youth Energetic dance.

"Kids get to explore and try new experiences they can't get at home,'' said Cynthia Rubino, President and CEO of the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester. "The large inflatables and games of skill are always a hit."

The goal of the event is to motivate and teach families how to develop and adhere to healthy routines. There will also be a camp information center, and swag bags for every family that attends. The playful atmosphere of the day makes this a sought after event.

"Families learn about how to work together toward a healthy lifestyle,'' Rubino said. "This year we will have MasterCard on hand to talk to adults about healthy family finances too. The various sectors come together to put the best information out there to strengthen our community. We are grateful for their participation and sponsorship."

The Y will also host a Legos Healthy Kids contest. Children can drop off their projects at the YMCA on April 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children are asked to design and build Lego displays with a “healthy kids” theme. There will be three age categories, and winners will be announced on April 18.
