Get In The Holiday Spirit At Wayside Cottage In Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) will open the doors of historic Wayside Cottage to nearby residents as it hosts a holiday open house in Scarsdale.

The JLCW will be hosting tours of the historic grounds with colonial guides to put residents in the holiday season. In the spirit of the holiday season, the cottage will be adorned with its decorations, and there will be food and festive entertainment.

Each winter, the JLCW – which is comprised of female volunteers from Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale and White Plains – hosts a holiday celebration in December to kick off the holidays in the village.

Wayside Cottage, the organization’s longtime home, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites. It has expanded from a one-room farmhouse that was built in the 1600s and has been used as an inn, tavern and post office. It became a part of the Butler Family’s country estate in 1853, and, in 1919, it was deeded to the village of Scarsdale to preserve the cottage for civic use.

The open house will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Wayside Cottage. In addition to the refreshments and entertainment, there will also be a toy drive to collect infant-aged items for the Newborn Care Package at White Plains Hospital.

Christine Pasqueralle, the media chair for the JLCW, said that the semi-annual open houses provide residents a chance to see the historic cottage and learn more about the efforts of the JCLW.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to visit and learn more about the historically significant cottage firsthand,” she said.
