That's why Pace University is hosting a special gathering on the school's Pleasantville campus this Monday. From 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the Alumni Hall Quad, a viewing party will offer guests the chance to use a solar telescope, watch the eclipse through complementary viewing glasses and enjoy refreshments free of charge. The afternoon will also feature welcome remarks by Pace’s president Marvin Krislov and a Q&A session with astronomy professor Matt Ganis.

This month's eclipse will be the first to travel across the entire country since 1918. Thinking you'll wait for the next one? It might be a while; the next total solar eclipse won't come around until 2024.

The event is free and open to the public. Pace University's Pleasantville campus is located at 861 Bedford Road. Guests should use Entrance 2.
