Congregation Kol Ami Discusses Islam In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Using primary source documents as foundation, a course at Congregation Kol Ami, led by Ze'ev Aviezer, will enable students to answer the compelling question: “Is Islamic religion the real cause of today’s terror attacks?”

Congregation Kol Ami will conduct a four session course on Islam.

Tuition is $120 for a session that will take place on four Tuesday mornings: March 29; April 5, 12, 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Congregation Kol Ami, 252 Soundview Ave.

Beginning with Mohammed’s seventh century encounter with the angel Gabriel, the course will cover Islam from its birth, exploring such questions as these:

  • How did the 13th century conquest of Islamic lands by the Mongols spawn the fatwas that serve as the ideological basis for 21st century radical Islamic movements?
  • How did an Egyptian Islamic pedagogue, educated at a small college in the U.S. in the 1940s, inspire texts that serve as guides for today’s jihadists?
  • Which “larger than life” Islamic personalities have provided writings to explain the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, and the al-Qaeda movements?
  • Who was behind the assassination of Anwar Sadat and who befriended and radicalized Osama bin Laden?
  • How does theology “compel" ISIS to behead its opponents?
