Community Support Pleases White Plains YMCA's Executive Director

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Tom Hay returned to the White Plains YMCA last May. After previously working at the facility nearly 30 years ago, he has found the same commitment from the community to help the facility maintain its mission.

“I started here 30 years ago, so it’s coming home for me,’’ Hay said as he prepares for the Westchester Culinary Experience on Wednesday, April 8. “It’s great to see a lot of familiar faces.”

Hay said in his first year as the Y’s Executive Director, he has found the community responsive to its programs and its needs. “The community has been very much in touch and very attuned to the Y and has shown great support,’’ Hay said.

Hay is particularly enthused as he prepares for his first visit at the Westchester Culinary Experience. The event benefits the White Plains YMCA Annual Challenge, and goes a long way to supporting its programs.

The event brings a taste of some of the region’s finest restaurants to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains from 6-8:30 p.m.

“It gives the community a great opportunity to support an organization that’s 120-plus years old,’’ Hay said. “It’s part of the fabric of the community.”

The event will feature specialty dishes from X20, Teitel Brothers, Arthur Avenue Restaurant, The Great American BBQ, Antonees Catering/The Old Stone Mill, Angelina’s Ristorante, Crown Plaza Hotel, Rita’s Ice Custard, 808 Bistro and more.

Each specialty dish will be paired with a wine selected by Zachy’s Wine & Liquor.
