WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Business leader Lowell Hawthorne, chief executive officer of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural "Connections for Success: Small Business and Job Seeker Summit," Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

Business owners will learn how to gain access to the “3 C’s” that can make their business a success: Customers, Capital and Contracts. Job seekers will gain the inside track on available opportunities within the county.

The program, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include panel discussions and breakout sessions with leading business experts; networking opportunities with representatives from organizations looking to hire or to contract with small businesses and an exhibitor mall featuring dozens of business support services and resources.

Panelists include representatives from IBM, MasterCard, WestMed, Con Edison, Greater Hudson Bank, The New NY Bridge and various Westchester County departments and agencies. There will also be a networking session sponsored by The Business Council of Westchester and the Westchester County Association.,

Attendees will learn how Hawthorne emigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica, and with no prior business experience, pooled money from family members to launch Golden Krust in 1989 in the Bronx. Today, there are more than 125 locations in nearly a dozen states, grossing more than $100 million in annual sales.
