WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Bleakley Platt & Schmidt, LLP announced that Michael G. Lewis, former chief legal officer at Lukoil North America, a major international energy company’s U.S. marketing arm, has joined the firm as a partner.
Lewis has extensive experience managing large portfolios of commercial properties, structuring and enforcing franchise and distribution relationships and managing all areas of litigation affecting a company in the heavily regulated energy industry.
Previously, Lewis also served as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Getty Petroleum Marketing Inc., one of the nation’s largest independent marketers of petroleum products.
Before joining Getty, he represented lenders, financial services firms and other businesses in asset-based financing, commercial lease transactions and complex litigation in state trial and appellate courts and U.S. district and bankruptcy courts throughout the U.S. His multi-disciplined practice will concentrate on real estate, environmental law and litigation, focusing on leasing, acquisitions and divestments, and regulatory compliance.
Lewis is a strong proponent of diversity in the legal profession. He is a frequent keynote speaker and panelist and holds leadership positions with prominent industry and minority bar organizations.
He is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Asian American Bar Association of New York and a former co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Section on Energy, Environment and Resources, Petroleum Marketing Committee.
