Iris Schreier of Artyarns worries the blackout will cause the store to go bankrupt and close. Every store on the street, she said, is also without power.
“This will be disastrous to our city and our economy,” Schreier said. “We are small businesses that cannot meet payroll or continue to employ workers if we cannot operate due to the blackout.”
The Con Edison outage map shows there were still 8,577 of 23,854 Con Edison customers without power in White Plains Thursday, approximately 3,000 less than the height of Hurricane Sandy.
For residents still without power, the White Plains Library will remain open until 9 p.m. Thursday. There will be extra extension cords to allow people to charge their electronics and use the free Wi-Fi connection.
The City of White Plains Department of Public Works continues to clear downed trees, limbs and wires, and has restored several traffic lights, including intersections on North Street, Old Mamaroneck Road, Bloomingdale Avenue and Westchester Avenue.
However, some roads remain closed Wednesday, partially because the city can't touch downed trees when there was is a downed wire, Karen Pasquale, of the Mayor’s office, said.
