New Cablevision Owner Lays Off 600 Optimum Workers

A total of 600 people will lose their jobs with Optimum, which will also close two local offices in Connecticut by late this fall, according to multiple media reports.

Altice USA, the new owner of Cablevision and its Optimum service, made the announcement Tuesday that the call center jobs in Shelton, Conn., and back office jobs in Stratford, Conn., will be moved to New Jersey and New York, according to NBC Connecticut . As a result, more than 600 people will be laid off.

Employees will get severance packages and can apply for other positions due to the layoffs, which should take affect by November, according to WTNH-TV.

The Shelton office is at 5 Research Drive.

Field service operations and News 12 in Norwalk will not be affected, according to the Connecticut Post.

Altice acquired Cablevision in June for $17.7 billion. On Tuesday, Altice reported Cablevision's second quarter revenue at $1.6 billion, up from a year ago.
