Microsoft Store Opens At The Westchester

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Lisa Williams had a Microsoft shopping bag filled with an X-Box 360 Kinnect even before the ribbon was cut on the company’s new retail store in The Westchester, winning one of many raffles Friday morning.

The curtain dropped on Microsoft’s 24th retail store in America about 11 a.m., unleashing a line of people on the mall's second floor that stretched into the parking lot. Waiting for them were a store full of giveaways, software and rambunctious staff jumping up and down and dancing. Some customers, like Williams, came to get tickets to Saturday's Lenny Kravitz concert celebrating the stores’ opening, while others came to check out the store and support Microsoft.

“I told the staff I’m going to wear the Microsoft shirt into the Apple Store upstairs,” said Ted Lai, of Hawthorne.

Lis Aguiar, who also won a raffle for an X-Box 360 Kinnect, and her friends arrived just before 7 a.m. General admission tickets to the Kravitz concert were given on a first come, first served basis.

“I’m bringing my camera because I want the pictures to come out crystal clear,” Williams said.

Before the ribbon-cutting, Microsoft presented checks totaling $1.5 million in software grants to the local organizations. The local chapter of Junior Achievement received $1 million, and the JCY-Westchester Community Partner and Nepperhan Community Center received $250,000 each.

Kravitz will perform on the field at White Plains High School at 7 p.m. Saturday. Gates open at 5 p.m.
