Leadership Program Applications Being Accepted

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. –Twenty students will soon begin a program designed to encourage tomorrow's leaders to invest in their communities, and one young professional will receive a full scholarship for the Volunteer Center initiative.

Julia Salem Emrick, a graduate of the program and director of events for the Westchester County Association, said Leadership Westchester is a signature program of the Volunteer Center, a state program that matches volunteers to opportunities every day.

“It‘s one of the best personal and professional development experiences certainly that I’ve have in my career,” said Emrick, who completed the nine-month program in June. “It teaches leadership concepts that are taught amongst some of the nation’s top business schools.”

The goal of the program is for its participants to implement their management skills and understanding of nonprofit board responsibilities to their workplaces, as well as their communities. After her experience, Emrick said, she is pursuing volunteer opportunities with two Westchester nonprofits.

“It’s really the only one of its kind that I’m aware of,” Emrick said.

Applications are due by Aug. 31 and can be found online . A candidate will be selected by Sept. 14.
