The flu season may have gotten a late start this year, but now it's here in New York and spreading across the country, according to Bloomberg.

Numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the virus is widespread in 37 states, Bloomberg said.

This is the time of year where the virus tends to dissipate, yet the amount of doctor visits has steadily risen over the last few weeks, reported Bloomberg.

However, this year's flu vaccine was well-matched, as brands like Tamiflu proved to be extremely effective against circulating viruses, Bloomberg noted.
