Caridad & Louie's Brings Italian-Dominican Fusion To New Rochelle

On Friday, Caridad & Louie’s, which first opened in Yonkers a decade ago, before expanding to the Bronx in 2009, will open at 241 North Ave., around the corner from New Roc City, where they will serve their traditional Italian and Dominican fare for the community.

Owned by Mercedes and Renato Rios, who have been in the restaurant business for nearly two decades, Caridad & Louie’s is a family-run business with all hands on deck.

“In the 10 years since the first Caridad & Louie’s, we have opened and sold smaller restaurants, because we wanted to focus on our bigger establishments that have been around for a while and have loyal customers,” Justine Barreiro, Mercedes’ daughter who helps with media relations for the business, said.

“We settled on this area because there is nothing like (it) in the area and Dominican cuisine is missing. We have many residents of New Rochelle who travel to our other locations, so now they don’t have to travel very far.”

Now seasoned restauranteurs, Barreiro said that there were very few hurdles for her family in getting the New Rochelle location ready for its anticipated grand opening on Friday.

“There were no real big obstacles while getting the restaurant ready,” she added. “There were changes that had to be made last minute from the Building Department, but we made the necessary updates and got approval from all departments to open.”
