Sara James was named vice president of membership and programs, and Allison Calvert was promoted to director of special events, effective immediately.

In announcing the promotions, Business Council President and CEO Dr. Marsha Gordon said each has contributed to the success of The Business Council of Westchester and helped make 2014 a banner year for the membership organization.

“We could not have achieved the successes we did without the hard work and dedication of Sara and Allison,” Gordon said. “The Business Council and its members are fortunate to have the experience and know-how of these two professionals and we’re excited to announce these well-deserved promotions.”

James has been with The Business Council since 2011, most recently as director of sales, marketing and business development. In her broadened role, she will be responsible for the development and retention of membership; identifying strategic business alliances and benefits for members and expanding The Business Council’s presence in the business and corporate community.

James previously held positions at Young & Rubicam, Time Warner Cable and Kenneth Cole Productions. She earned a bachelor’s of science from Boston University and resides in New Rochelle.

Calvert joined The Business Council in 2012 as a special events coordinator, where she coordinates and plans more than 80 events a year, including the Annual Dinner, Hall of Fame Awards, Rising Stars and many other networking and professional development meetings. Calvert also oversees budgets, outreach and manages the Rising Star Alumni Council, which consists of more than 400 members. Her new role will expand those responsibilities.

Before joining The Business Council, Calvert was a fundraiser and event planner with the American Red Cross. Calvert graduated from Berkeley College with a bachelor’s of business administration. She lives in Norwalk, Conn.
